The skills you will develop

1.

Understanding data.

In our hyperconnected world we are surrounded by data, and processing all the information that comes our way can be a daunting task. The first step is to discover how to collect relevant data and, more importantly, understand it.

2.

Making predictions.

Using supervised learning and data classification, we can make predictions. Additionally, you will examine the basics of machine learning, including neural networks.

3.

Developing decision-making skills.

You will discover how to make efficient decisions, eliminating uncertainty and impulsiveness from the process using your own previously-analyzed data.

4.

Mastering causal inference,

and, after employing machine learning, you will be able to correctly apply and evaluate observed experiences to draw relevant conclusions.

In addition, you will receive a Certificate of Completion

All participants who successfully complete the program will receive an MIT Professional Education Certificate of Completion.

Students in the MIT Professional Education Digital Plus Program Machine Learning: Leveraging Data Insights will also receive 6.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU*).

To receive these CEUs, the required CEU accreditation form must be filled out. These CEUs are calculated for each program according to the number of learning hours.

* A CEU is a unit of credit equivalent to 10 hours of participation in an accredited program for professionals.

Devavrat Shah is a professor in the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He is director of the Statistics and Data Science Center, in the Institute for Data, Systems and Society. He is a member of MIT´s LIDS, CSAIL, and ORC.

Currently, his research is focused on the development of large-scale machine learning algorithms for unstructured data, especially those related to society. He has contributed to the development of “gossip” protocols and message-passing algorithms for statistical inference that have become a mainstay of modern distributed data processing systems.

His work is widely recognized, and therefore, Devavrat has been recognized for his contributions to machine learning, operations research, and computer science, in addition to receiving the Erlang Prize in 2010 from INFORMS Applied Probability Society. This award is given twice a year to a brilliant young researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to applied probability. He is a distinguished young alumnus of his alma mater, the IIT Bombay.

He is co-founder of Celect, Inc., which aims is to help retailers make decisions by accurately predicting consumer choices based on omnichannel data. Nike bought Celect, Inc., in August 2019. His work has been featured in important publications like The New York Times, Forbes, Wired, and Reddit.
